The patent-pending test device MT COOLANT CHECK represents an innovative approach to engine coolant analysis, offering a chemical-free alternative to traditional chemical-based testing methods. By utilizing an electrotechnical apparatus with corrosion-resistant and corrosion-prone electrodes, the device eliminates the need for environmentally hazardous chemicals while providing accurate assessments of coolant performance. The remaining corrosion protection level of the coolant in use is determined fully automatically in just one single test with a new unit of measurement - Lagner (lag).

Clear recommendations to action with indication of the dosing rate of the chemical additive required to be added (if any) help to avoid unnecessary coolant changes and wastage. Easily recyclable electrodes with no shelf-life limitations contribute to waste reduction, minimizing environmental risks, especially to marine ecosystems, thereby marking a significant stride towards sustainable predictive maintenance in the maritime industry.

Successful Presence at Posidonia and SMM 2024

At the world's largest and prestigious shipping exhibitions of the international maritime community, Posidonia and SMM 2024, Martechnic showcased its time-proven testing equipment for pro-active condition monitoring of fuel, lube and hydraulic oil and innovative solutions for on-site cooling water quality determination. The company's presence at these global gatherings of maritime professionals provided an excellent platform to demonstrate the MT COOLANT CHECK's capabilities and environmental benefits.

In addition, Martechnic’s initiative “Biofuel Think Tank” during the SMM week has facilitated valuable discussions on sustainable biofuels in marine shipping. Environmental Commitment Through Charitable Giving

Continuing its tradition of social responsibility, Martechnic participated in WWF's "Donations Instead of Gifts 2024" Christmas campaign. This initiative reflects the company's dedication to environmental protection and biodiversity preservation, aligning with its ESG principles and commitment to sustainable development.

Internal Environmental Initiatives

To reduce its environmental footprint, Martechnic has revised the packaging material of its test kits to offer environmental-friendly and sustainable alternatives.

Martechnic\’s test kits will be now offered with a recycled PE foam insert with a recycled content of at least 80% with very good restoring forces, excellent cushioning properties, excellent performance and protection of the test kit components. The polyethylene foam is not only light, but can be easily recycled countless times and reused while maintaining consistent quality.

Moreover, instead of plastic bags previously used for packing of the reagents and chemicals, Martechnic now uses biodegradable flat bags of sustainable polylactide (PLA) bioplastic for safe and leak-proof transport in compliance with the international environmental standards. The environmentally-friendly packaging material is of high quality, certified according to EN/DIN 13432 and TÜV sealed, transparent-milky and 50 mµ, compastible and it helps to reduce plastic waste and promote a sustainable future.

Since many years Martechnic celebrates the Christmas season by supporting the annual fundraising campaign of WWF „Donations instead of Gifts“. SMM 2024: Martechnic Will Showcase its Innovative, Patent Pending Test Device “MT COOLANT CHECK”

The world’s leading maritime industry trade fair - SMM 2024 - will take place from the 3rd to 6th September. The global maritime community from over 120 countries will gather in Hamburg to take part in the exhibition and high-profile conferences to discuss the current challenges and opportunities of the maritime sector, to present state of the art technologies and innovative projects, as well as to exchange business ideas and cooperation.

As a Hamburg-based company, Martechnic is traditionally taking part in the event. We will be exhibiting at Hall A1, Stand 432 and share our booth with our partner companies as in previous years.

Martechnic will be showcasing its brand new, patent pending test device MT COOLANT CHECK developed for regular on-board engine coolant analysis in the global shipping sector and beyond. The innovative testing equipment differs substantially from traditional chemical-based approaches to coolant quality assessment. Instead of complex analysis of individual coolant parameters (chlorides, nitrite additives, pH etc.) by means of different chemicals, predominantly classified as hazardous products for the environment, the test device MT COOLANT CHECK utilizes chemical-free alternative measurement method.

To determine the anti-corrosion effect of the engine coolant in use, the MT COOLANT CHECK offers just one single test of a small amount of coolant sample by means of the electrotechnical apparatus, with constant (corrosion resistant) and working/ changeable (corrosion-prone) electrodes in a simulated engine cooling system. No chemicals are required at all. All the evaluation is carried out fully automatically, delivering results in just 15 minutes.

Due to its innovative and environmentally friendly engine coolant analysis, the MT COOLANT CHECK was recognized with 2024 and 2023 Ship Technology Excellence Awards in the categories “INNOVATION” and “ENVORONMENTAL – DECARBONIZATION”.

Taking into account the decarbonization process of the shipping industry and development of different alternative fuel options, Martechnic invites all interested stakeholders to participate in the “Biofuel Think Tank” organized at the company’s exhibition stand. The usage of sustainable biofuels for marine shipping for minimization of the environmental impact as well as the problematic issues of biofuel properties and contaminants will be discussed. The focus will be given to the application of Martechnic’s testing equipment in on-board biofuel blends handling and management measures.

As we are currently in the process of testing different biofuel blends and determining key chemical parameters under specific fuel storage and operating conditions, we are looking for collaborations on biofuel research and testing!

The Ship Technology Excellence Awards is one of the largest, most prestigious, and widely recognised programmes throughout the industry powered by the business intelligence of GlobalData.

Martechnic’s groundbreaking test device “MT COOLANT CHECK” provides a non-chemical and sustainable method for engine coolant analysis in on-board predictive maintenance programs. Application of less resource-intensive and easily recyclable steel and stainless steel electrodes for testing is not only innovative, but also allows the reduction of the risk of environmental contamination and protection of aquatic life by avoiding hazardous chemicals. Martechnic’s environmentally friendly approach contributes to eliminating chemical waste and extending electrode usability with no shelf life concerns, supporting predictive maintenance, and reducing unnecessary resource use.

Martechnic Exhibits at Posidonia 2024

Posidonia is one of the largest and prestigious shipping exhibition of the international maritime community taking place every two years in Athens, Greece. Leading Greek and international shipowners and shipping executives will be gathering at Metropolitan Expo from 3 to 7 June, 2024 to discuss the latest challenging issues that have a profound impact on the global shipping industry including complex geopolitical situation and environmental regulaitons. The topics of decarbonization and the development of alternative zero-carbon fuels, sustainability directives, digitalization and application of AI in the maritime sector and innovative technical solutions will be in focus during extended conferences, seminars and technical workshop programs offered at Posidonia 2024.

The brand new test device is designed to provide a vessel’s crew with sustainable, non-chemical on-board testing of the engine coolant quality.

The performance of the engine coolant is characterized in relation to its existing level of corrosion protection on the metals used in the cooling system.

During the two-day event, Martechnic will be showcasing its effective, time-proven technical solutions for routine on-board condition monitoring of fuel, lube and hydraulic oil. Martechnic‘s Customer Relations Manager Dr. Frank Bernier will present our latest innovation - the patent pending test device “MT COOLANT CHECK”, designed and developed for on-board engine coolant analysis without the use of any chemicals in an environmentally friendly way. The new measurement method of the test device is based on the electrotechnical apparatus, with constant (corrosion resistant) and working, changeable (corrosion-prone) electrodes. A small engine coolant sample is analysed under the conditions of a simulated engine cooling system. When applying electrical voltage, both electrodes are subjected to corrosion stress, and the performance of the engine coolant is characterized fully automatically in relation to its existing level of corrosion protection with the new unit of measurement “Lagner”.

When the anti-corrosive effect of the engine coolant in use is insufficient, the dosing rate of the chemical additive to be added is automatically calculated, taking into account the cooling water volume, dosing method and dosing factor provided in the manufacturer's coolant specifications.

Martechnic Supports the IMPA Hamburg 2024 Event

The International Marine Purchasing Association (IMPA) annually organizes special events for international purchasing professionals withing the maritime industry to enhance cooperation and network opportunities, and to achieve sustainability and efficiency in the global supply chain. The one-day event will take place in Hamburg for the 3^rd time on the 18^th of April, 2024 at the Empire Riverside Hotel.

Martechnic Donates Track Suits to Local Football Club the “Niendorfer TSV”

As part of the our internal ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) framework and its social responsibility component, we are committed to support our local community to build a stronger and sustainable future for the younger generation.

Martechnic was very happy to offer support to the local football club the “Niendorfer TSV”. As an early Christmas gift, we donated about 2,300 Euro and helped to purchase 22 track suits for the team and the trainer of the youth football department. The new clothes help to approach the cold winter time in a healthy way and keep warm and comfortable the 7- to 8-year-old boys during their training sessions. At the same time, the new track suits will help to strengthen team spirit and increase the sense of belonging to the club “Niendorfer TSV”
